2024 Scholarship Information

The Grayslake Greener Garden Club (GGGC) serves the community of Grayslake and surrounding areas through charitable and philanthropic gardening activities. GGGC is proud of its Scholarship program which provides financial aid to students for their study of horticulture and environmental field. Eligible students must be pursuing a major in one of the following areas of study: Horticulture, Floriculture, Landscape Design, Botany, Plant Pathology, Forestry, Agronomy, and Environmental studies.

The scholarship is generally $500 each for two or more students. Selection is made by the GGGC Scholarship Committee.  Scholarship funds are paid directly to the student(s) school’s registry to apply directly to tuition and textbook costs

 

The scholarship is open to any person who resides in Grayslake, IL and/or attends neighboring community school (Grayslake Central High School, Grayslake North Central High School, and College of Lake County). The applicant must be enrolled or have a letter of acceptance to a 2-year or 4-year college or university within the above noted courses of study; this includes currently enrolled college students and high school seniors.

 

Application Process:

  1. Complete the following application.

  2. Include two letters of recommendation from a source other than a relative, who can describe your character. Reference letters must be emailed directly from the author.

  3. Complete a personal statement essay (500 words or less) discussing your background, future goals and commitment to your chosen career. The essay must be in first person and typed or computer generated using 12 point double spaced format.

  4. Attach an official notice of acceptance to the college; university or technical school for the upcoming semester/school year.

  5. Assemble and mail all documents as a complete packet to the GCGC Scholarship Chairperson, address on application. All mailed applications must be postmarked by March 31.

  6. You may also submit the application and essay via email to peiden835@yahoo.com. Application and essay should be submitted as .pdf documents. Scan college acceptance letter as .pdf and attach. Reference letters must be emailed directly from the author.  All applications must be received emailed by March 31.

Selection Process:

  • Applications must be received no later than the deadline date of March 31. Applications received after that date will NOT be considered.

  • Applications must include all required information.

  • Any reference to the Applicant’s name will be deleted prior to the selection.

  • The selection process will be completed by a committee of GGGC Members.

  • Strong consideration will be given to the level of volunteerism, activities, and community service involvement.

  • All applicants will be notified of their status regarding the final selection.
